NJHS
What is NJHS?
The National Honor Society (NHS) and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) are the nation's premier organizations established to recognize outstanding high school and middle level students. More than just an honor roll, NHS and NJHS serve to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character (and Citizenship for NJHS). These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since their beginnings in 1921 and 1929.
Today, it is estimated that more than one million students participate in activities of the NHS and NJHS. NHS and NJHS chapters are found in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, many U.S. Territories, and Canada. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.
Ensign Intermediate School is proud to be a chapter of NJHS and have dedicated and giving students that are willing to be a part of this national organization.

Please email faculty advisors Mrs. Cross and Ms. Tum if you have any questions! We're looking forward to another great year in NJHS!
Service Hours Ideas
While we completely understand that your original plans for community service may no longer be possible, there are still plenty of creative ways you can earn your hours! Below are some options, but you are not limited to these items. If you have an idea for community service and would like to run it by your advisors, please email Mrs. Cross and Ms. Tum. As always, please remember that you cannot receive compensation (pay) for community service! If you do something as a regular chore around the house, it will not count. If you are going above and beyond what you typically do to help out, it will count. Hour requirements will remain the same: 30 hours for first year members and 10 hours for returning members.
- Tutoring online -- you can set up a Zoom session (or other platform) to tutor friends, neighbors, or family members.
- Bringing groceries to an elderly neighbor -- maybe even include a nice note and some flowers to brighten their day!
- Helping siblings with homework -- remember, this only counts if it is something you don't typically do.
- Babysitting family members -- remember, this only counts if it is something you don't typically do.
- Cooking dinner for your family -- remember, this only counts if it is something you don't typically do.
- Doing yard work -- remember, this only counts if it is something you don't typically do.
- Dog walking -- remember, this only counts if it is something you don't typically do.
