CTE Courses at Ensign
In Design and Modeling, students apply the engineering design process to creatively solve real-world problems. Students use tools such as the design process, computer-aided design (CAD) program, computer simulations, an engineering notebook and 3D printer to design, model, and build objects. Students work in teams to design a toy or game for a child with cerebral palsy, fabricate and test it, and make necessary modifications to optimize the design solution.
Automation and Robotics (AR) allows students to trace the history, development, and influence of automation and robotics as they learn about mechanical systems, energy transfer, machine automation, and computer control systems. Students use the VEX Robotics platform and programming software to design, build, and program real-world objects such as traffic lights, toll booths, and robotic arms.
Robotics and Programming 8 is a course that builds on students’ engineering knowledge and skills through the use of VEX Robotics and introduces the core concepts of programming. Students will first design, build and modify robots, then craft programs of increasing levels of complexity and interactivity.
In this introductory Human Anatomy course, students will develop a basic understanding of the structure and function of the human body and mechanisms for maintaining homeostasis. Students will participate in discussions, labs, presentations, and direct instruction in order to learn and prepare them for future high school courses related to biological science and healthcare.
